Unlike Houston, Galveston's downtown isn't surrounded by 75-story skyscrapers; the island's tallest building is a mere 20 stories. But a rooftop view in historic downtown Galveston offers a charming panorama of the harbor, ship channel and the Gulf of Mexico as well as buildings that date back more than 100 years.
There is only one place to enjoy this view - The Rooftop Bar at The Tremont House. The bar is a sophisticated, modern lounge that is located four stories above street level on the hotel’s roof and offering a spectacular view of Galveston’s historic downtown and harbor. Recently, the bar’s traditional wrought iron seating has been replaced with cozy sectional seating areas and bar high tables and chairs. In the evenings, the rooftop takes on a soft glow with illuminated pots and eight-foot, lighted Manzanita tree.
The bar offers its Rooftop Sharing Plates featuring an array of international meats including ham, pâté, sausage, Italian Spec-smoked prosciutto, Herbes de Provence-crusted dry salami, green peppercorn salami, Rosette de Lyn salami and mortadella. Locally-sourced Texas cheese offerings include “Redneck Cheddar” and “Paragon” from Dublin, Texas, as well as “Deep Ellum Blue” and “Hoja Santa,” produced in Dallas.
The Tremont House is the only hotel in Galveston that features an open-air rooftop venue. The Rooftop Bar is open Wednesday through Saturday from 4 to 11 p.m. Visit The Rooftop Bar on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/TheRooftopBar.
