Learn to cook New Orleans cuisine

Take a cooking class at the New Orleans Cooking Experience to learn about the wonders of  the Louisiana food.  It offers cooking vacations, half-day, private and special event classes to visitors and local New Orleanians.  The highly personalized classes focus on authentic Creole cooking.  Regular classes are limited to ten, and include instruction, recipes, wines and conclude with a multi-course dinner party. Special event classes are available for groups of ten to 60+.  The cuisine is classic Creole New Orleans plus a little Cajun, and classes are taught on residential equipment so that students will be able to reproduce the recipes at home.

The founder, Judy Jurisich is a native New Orleanian and former television and marketing executive who created the idea for the New Orleans Cooking Experience. The idea was based on her belief that visitors have a growing appetite for authentic experiences to learn about the culture and history of the area, with the premier example being its heralded cuisine. In each half day class at the cooking school budding cooks create a four-course meal.  This generally includes between five and eight recipes per class.  Cooking classes are limited to ten students, and set in a small, intimate atmosphere for maximum interaction with our teaching chefs.  The teaching portion of class lasts about 2 ½ hours with the students joining the chef around our teaching island. Following class sit down to enjoy our four-course meal with a lively dinner party.  Class fees include instruction, a complete recipe packet, wine service for the duration of class and the meal, and all taxes and gratuities.   

 

The New Orleans Cooking Experience also offers cooking class series – four day, three day and two day series.  There is one class scheduled each day and students do not have to take the classes on sequential dates, but may spread them over a week, a month or a year if they choose so people can learn about the “good mother smell” of New Orleans cuisine.
