Peacocks Being Hunted in India's Corbett National Park

A recent news item shows that peacocks are being hunted. It’s the first news that comes from the Kaladhungi region of Uttarakhand. Some weeks ago, when a young boy was attempting to wring the neck of a peacock, the forest officials caught him.

It said that there are lots of people who are crazy about the meat of peacock, and they have been hunting our national bird for quite a long time. It is said that the meat of peacocks is very tasty. It is the biggest reason why the peacock is being hunted.

Last time when I was on the tour of Corbett National Park I took a jeep safari in the Bijrani safari zone. After the safari we were very disappointed that we could not enjoy the wildlife as we had expect. We hoped to encounter many black deer, spotted deer and peacocks. After the safari, when we were taking tea in a very small tea stall at Ramnagar, we heard some people chatting to each other that the locals of that area are also crazy for peacock meat.
