Italy has the Guinness Record for the country that has the most lifts.

Italy has the lowest birthrate in all of Europe. How strange since Italian families are so large! Italians live a very long time! They eat 66 pounds of pasta and 60 litres of wine a year!

San Marino

Ciao for “hello” or “goodbye” come from schiavo meaning “at your service.”

Italian is perceived to be a romantic language.

There are many dialects in Italy; however the official language originates from Latin.

Naples introduced the world to pizza!

Canned herring are called sardines because they came from Sardinia. Cantaloupes are named after the gardens of Cantaloupe, Italy.

In Ivrea they celebrate Lent by throwing oranges at each other.

The average Italian eats around a half pound of bread a day and 26 gallons or wine a year!

The Mafia is big in Italy. No surprise! It is known as the Cosa Nostra. The others are known as the Camorra and Ndrangheta.

The Romans actually mastered plumbing. They started using copper piping and valves.

Rome is known as the “Eternal City” and the “Caput Mundi”.

There is a legend that the brothers Romulus and Remus founders of Rome were raised in a cave by a she-wolf! 

Funny enough Rome’s emblem is a she-wolf suckling the two brothers.

You undoubtedly have heard about the city of Pompeii? It was buried after Mount Versuvius erupted in AD79. However, there were objects that were preserved. Scientists have actually been able to recreate replicas of Roman furniture!
