Rajaji National Park is a wildlife sanctuary established in 1983 in Uttarakhand. There is a tropical and subtropical deciduous forest in which many species of flora, animals, and birds are found. Rajaji National Park has spread over 820 sq km in the Shivalik ranges of the Himalayas.
The park is named after Mr. C. Rajagopalachari, who was the first Governor of independent India. Asian elephant, tiger and king cobra, dragon, monitor lizard, wild cats, panther, bear, chital, sambar, wild boar, Kakar, etc. can be seen in this beautiful wildlife sanctuary. Apart from this, species of many herbs and omnivorous birds are also found here. It is a protected wildlife sanctuary, due to which it has got the status of Tiger Reserve by the Government of India. This wildlife sanctuary maintains ecological balance.
Rajaji National Park remains open from November to June and remains closed for the remaining months. The park is surrounded by lush green hills of the Himalayas, whose unique beauty is seen during spring and at the same time wild animals like to come out, hence the best time to visit Rajaji National Park is during the months of February to April. During this winter there is also a balance of summer and the weather is very pleasant.
Rajaji National Park is an attractive tourist place surrounded by quiet and lush green trees where tourists can enjoy many activities such as jungle safari and bird watching. Apart from this, you must also explore the flora and wildlife found here.
Rajaji National Park has both jeep and elephant facilities available for tourists to enjoy the jungle safari. The timings for the jungle safari have been set from 6 to 11 am and from 2:30 to 5:30 in the afternoon. In the meantime, tourists can relax at the rest house located in the park and enjoy birdwatching.
The jeep ride in the park is of 3 hours and compared to the elephant ride of about 1 hour or less. Tourists can see Asian elephants, striped hyenas, langurs, barking deer, sambar, goral, sloth bear, jungle cat, leopard, bear, porcupine, jackal, and Bengal tiger during the safari of Rajaji National Park.
Many native exotic species of birds are seen in Rajaji National Park, which makes this park an excellent place for birdwatching. More than 300 species of birds are found in the lush green grasslands in the Himalayan foothills,
including woodpecker, barbets, fire-tailed sunbirds, pheasants, great-horned hornbills, starlings, cuckoo, partridge, vulture, barbets, greater scoop, White-naped woodpecker, great hornbill, black-billed turn, pulses fish eagle, Northern cowherd, black-nosed stork, yellow-billed blue magpies, scash thrush, snow-brood flycatcher, rusty-flanked trekker, pel-foot bush warbler, In addition to Tytler's leaf warbler, several other Avivari species are included.
