Guchhu Pani or Robber's Cave is a 650 meters long cavern in the middle of mountains through which a stream of water flows. This stream of water has created small waterfalls between the rocks. Many mysterious paths lead to the cave. Streams of water gush from all ends of the cave and cascade.

Even today the cave intrigues people with its exquisite natural interiors and 10-meter high waterfall. The water goes underground and then again appear on the surface at a little distance. It is an ideal picnic spot during the summers.

History and Origin

The cave lies in the limestone area of the Dehra plateau. Britishers gave it the name Robber’s Cave. In the late 1800s, robbers used to keep their belongings here and they would hide in the cave itself. Due to the labyrinth of paths, they would escape from the British army.

If you travel uphill and reach the end of the cave, you will find the origin of it where a small river flows into Guchhu Pani. This flowing water has formed the cave and waterfall. Some adventurous tourists go to see the origin of this cave. People rever this cave as an abode of Lord Shiva in the proximity of Sahastradhara in Dehradun.

Best Time to Visit

Summer season from April to October is the best time to visit the site. During winter water gets too cold and city temperature also plummets. Likewise, the water level rises high and water flow increases during the rainy season. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid visiting the caves in monsoon and winter.
