Gateway of India - Established in 1911, marking the visit of King George V and Queen Mary, this icon of Mumbai is a major tourist attraction in the city and has been featured in several Bollywood movies. Constructed by British architecture George Wittet, the Gateway of India draws inspiration from Roman, Hindu and Muslim architecture.   2. Elephanta Caves - A hour’s ride from the northeast boundaries of the port, the island of Elephanta is a best escape you might be needing to move away from the chaos of the city. Weekends are usually crowded, so it is advisable to take a ferry during the weekdays. Initially known as Gharapuri (after the priests of Ghara), the island name was changed to Elephanta because of a small statue of carved elephant founded by the Portuguese. Today, the island is known for the mesmerizing Elephanta caves. Few fishing villages still reside on the island.

Prince of Wales Museum - Also known as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, this landmark museum was built by the British and is known its intricately Indo-Saracenic style, dome shaped design with hints of Gujarati and Muslim architecture. Storing a valuable collection of paintings and sculptures, perfectly arranged in three floors, this wonderful tourist destination is a must visit.

  4. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus - Inspired by the Pancras Station in London and constructed in 1887 by F.W Stevens, this iconic railway station is a feat on its own. With millions of passengers boarding trains from the station, the terminus is one of the most photographed monuments in the city.

  5. Marine Drive - Appearing like a garland of lights, along the fringes of Mumbai’s posh locality, the Marine Drive is a fantastic spot to enjoy the cool breezes oozing from the seafront. A fantastic place for the lovebirds and a great place to relax after the office rush, you can go for long walks or even a jog along the footpath and have some local snacks like vada pav and jhal muri.

  6. Colaba Causeway - One of the most bustling markets in the city, the Colaba Causeway is one of the most revered places in Mumbai, especially by the youth. The reason being availability of cheap clothes, shoes and replica of high end brands.
