So where are some good routes to explore? Here are some options:

 

• For one you don’t want to miss out on Gibb River Road. It is one of the most famous and unique 4-wheel drive experiences in Australia. During this rad you will go through the heart of one of the last true wilderness areas on earth.

 

• If you are looking for more of a remote stock route, you will want to explore the Canning Stock Route. It is here where the ultimate outback test for 4 wheelers is performed.  It stretches more than 2,000 kilometers with the Goldfields.

 

• Gunbarrel Highway is another extremely challenging course. It features over 1400 kilometers of remote outback dessert landscapes in the Northern Territory.

 

• For the ultimate east to west journey, Savannah Way is your answer. It begins at North Queensland and leads you through the Northern Territory to Kununurra – also known as the Kimberley wilderness. It is during this trip that you will be able to see the second largest meteorite crater in the world.

 

Be aware though that not all outback off-road tracks are for everyone. Some are only suitable for high clearance vehicles and should be attempted by trained and confident drivers.

 

In addition, all off-road four-wheel drivers should have extensive food, water and fuel supplies along with a two-way radio transceiver.

 

Remember permits are usually required for most off-read tracks and some pass through private properties.
