The interesting and vibrant culture of the Alpine Balkan country of Slovenia has common linguistic and historical roots with its neighbors Croatia and Serbia, as well as some similarities in literature and art. Nevertheless, over the centuries Slovenes have also created their own distinctive culture, based on local influences as well as those of neighboring Italy to the south and the Austria-Hungarian Empire of which it was once part.

Especially interesting for tourists is the manner of building monasteries and temples in this country. There are a great many of them in the architecture of cities and small villages. Slovenian culture has absorbed the traditions of Baroque and Gothic.


The eighth and ninth centuries became the beginning of the emergence of writing and the development of crafts for Slovenia. The late emergence of various religions influenced changes in linguistic traditions and literature. The Bible was printed, then the Catechism. The architecture was dominated by the Romanesque style. The musical culture was based on folk traditions.


Science


The country has a Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. It includes the most famous people working in the field of education, research, culture. The science of Slovenia does not stand completely still. Scientists conduct research in chemistry and physics, pharmaceuticals and biology. Slovenian doctors have achieved great success, who have achieved good results and provide world-class services.

Such people as Jozhe Plečnik, Franze Prešern, Alexander Minachch contributed to the art of Slovenia. Each of them in his field adorned and ennobled the appearance of his country. Minachch is an accordion player who won an international competition.

Fundamental in the culinary of the country is the geography of Slovenia. Slovenes have a masterpiece of national importance - this is Kranjska sausage. It is made in every city and village and is happy to treat them to guests. Slovenian cuisine has recipes from meat, fish, vegetables and dairy products. In addition to the traditional national dishes, there are borrowed ones: schnitzel and strudel, which came from Austria, gnocchi, and Rizhot - from Italy. Slovenes are very fond of dumplings and pies, which have a variety of recipes and shapes.


Customs and Traditions


In the country, they love and celebrate all national and state holidays. The customs and traditions of Slovenia are based on historical processes. The whole population is favorable to visitors and greet on the street with complete strangers as a sign of respect. National clothes can only be seen on holidays. Slovenia celebrates New Year, Christmas, Easter, Pust, and Independence Day.
