Mountain Biking in the Portes du Soleil area has become increasingly popular in the last few years, with mountain bike enthusiasts realising that the villages around the mountains, such as Morzine and Les Gets, are the ideal place for a mountain biking adventure. Since thePortes du Soleil became a training ground for Tour de France competitors, mountain biking has become a familiar sight in Les Gets, and there are many reasons why people choose this village as their main biking ground.
Close proximity to trails
Les Gets is right next to a range of mountain biking trails which can be used by bikers of all skill levels, from beginners to professionals. There are also a number of challenging downhills that can be reached via the Les Gets ski lift. This makes it perfect and suitable for a wide range of different activities. All-in-all, there are more than 650km of marked trails, and Les Gets also boasts 25 lifts which can be used to take bikers to the best positions. There are more than a dozen downhill runs, which are suited to both amateur and expert, and there are another 6 downhills in the nearby town of Morzine. If you want an adventure mountain biking holiday Les Gets has the technical challenges that you will need.
Challenging cross-country biking
In addition to the dozens of trails running around the village and slopes of Les Gets, there are also a further 7 trails which cater for bikers who enjoy cross-country riding. These trails can take you from the hills of the village and down to the shores of the lake, and even into the nearby borders of Switzerland. These cross-country trails are available in a range of distances, from between 2 and 7km. This means that you can choose which distance you wish to travel, and then set out without having to be concerned about measuring that distance. For most visitors to Les Gets, the 2km distance is recommended as a first-day experience, to get you warmed up and to familiarize yourself with the countryside.
Colour-coding of trails
Mountain biking in Les Gets is not just for the experienced rider, and there are many riders of all skill levels choosing to spend their time riding the trails of Les Gets. For this reason, the Morzine tourist board has created a series of colour-coded routes, designed to help you find your perfect level. Just as in skiing, this code follows an international standard, which includes green for beginners, then blue for more confident riders, red for very confident riders, and black for the experts. This is there to help you calculate your own difficulty level, and ride safely.
