I'm planning a trip to Jaipur and will like to know recommendations to eat local Rajasthan food in Jaipur. Will also like to know how much these places will cost - do the prices vary quiet a lot? Please specify if these are budget places, medium or high on cost

A typical Rajasthani Thali (A large plate with multiple dishes and a bit of rice and bread) can cost between Rs 150 - to Rs 900 (This is based on Feb 2013 prices) without alcohol. Which turns out to be around $3 to $15. The key to finding a good local Rajasthani cuisine (though there are regional rajasthani variations) is to locate a fairly decent "Sweets Shop" (more like a pastry shop or dessert place in New York parlance) One of my "go to" places is called Laxmi Mistan Bhandar Which means Laxmi Sweets Shop. Their thali is pure vegetarian fare cooked in Ghee (clarified butter)
Then there is a kitchy-touristy make-believe village themed dining experience called Choki-Dhani It was about rs 1600, all you can eat. So what would one want to taste in Jaipur ? Try Kachori, it is a savory fried or baked with fillings - A round empanada made out of flour.
For non-vegetarian fare I prefer Handi on M I Road (Mirza Ismail Road) for its laal maas (red meat) and chicken-kaali-mirch (Chicken cooked in black pepper)
Like any good Indian city, the street fare and snacks also dominate the local residents palate; however there is rarely two same opinions on which cart or street vendor serves the best chaat or kulfi...
Hope this helps..
