Social media marketing - strategy, please

What strategy should I use to get the most out of Social Media Marketing. I run a small family friendly alcohol free camp on the shores of Lake Elementaita Kenya. So far my efforts have yielded little or no results.

What have your efforts been so far? Which sites, and what have you been doing on them?

Ive tried to put articles about our camp and the sorrounding areas, special offers and even asked some clients to recommend us. Ive mainly tried in facebook but to some extent twitter and linked in.

one suggestion - Make yourselves the experts on Kenya in particular and travel to Africa in general.  Post tips, tidbits, etc. on a regular basis.  It doesn't have to be a regular sales pitch for your camp, just info to establish yourselves as a reliable resource.
