No, they are making money these days. Millions and billions. Airlines in the US made more than $750,000,000 on baggage fees alone the first quarter this year according to IATA.

The one thing that keeps me from complaining too much about the airlines is that I know they're losing money, too. But are they? This is from today's Marketwatch:

"The International Air Transport Association more than tripled its 2010 outlook on Tuesday for the world's airlines, predicting the industry will now post a full-year profit of $8.9 billion."

Hi Charlie, have you contacted Darren @ the Travel Rants blog about it? It may be up his street. (I'd welcome a guest post about it on mine too if you're interested)

Fellow tripatinis,
Last week my group the Consumer Travel Alliance together with ASTA and the Business Travel Coalition launched a Mad as Hell about Hidden Fees petition. You can find it at www.madashellabouthiddenfees.com. I explain the effort on ConsumerTraveler.com at http://snipr.com/12vhdr.
This is the first time in over a decade that the DOT is changing a regulation regarding airline ticketing and what passengers should know. For consumers this is a perfect storm opportunity to mandate that airlines tell all travel agents and online travel agencies the full price of airline travel.
Please pass along the word. If you would like any prepared ads for this effort, please contact me directly at leocha@consumertraveler.com.
