Rome Club Culture Flourishes With Top International DJ Events

Rome is becoming more and more a culture club city, with the trendiest clubs such as Goa, Room 26, Brancaleone, Rising Love and Spazio Novecento, hosting some of the best international DJs.

Let’s start from tonight. Three big events for dance and night life lovers on November 13. At Spazio Novecento Bob Sinclair, author of renowned “Love Generation”, the soundtrack of a famous TV adv, will keep the tunes spinning, playing his last album “Jamaica” and his single “Lala Song”. Berlin’s Panorama Bar resident Marcus Meinhardt gets down with his Nordic atmosphere at Rising Love with a perfect balance of house and electronic music. Always on Saturday 13, at Brancaleone, The Field dj-set, aka Alex Wilner, will propose eclectic and sophisticated music from Sweden in his only Italian appearance.

Goa will also feature big names soon: Theo Parrish on November 18 and Paco Osuna on November 25. Anja Schneider, Locodice, Paul Ritch and Ricardo Villalobos from Chile with his peculiar minimal, electronic and tecno sound, will make your booty shake in December at Goa.

On November 21 Free Masons will get behind the decks of Room 26, while on November 26 dj Magda and Marc Houle will be manning the ship. On November 27 Tony Humphries will rock hard all night long at Room 26, followed in mid-December by Kenny Dope Gonzales, of the “Masters at Work” band.

On November 27 Steve Lower will play at Spazio Novecento, while on December 11 it will be Felix Housecat dj-set’s turn with his house/electroclash style. After Christmas crowd favourite Martin Solveig and David Guetta will be Spazio Novecento’s guests.

On December 7 you can shake it on Atlantico Live‘s dancefloor with Sven Vath, a tecno house pioneer and founder of Cocoon, the international event company.

Brancaleone’s program teems with great events in the next few weeks, too. Paris dj-set Cassius and Matthew Dear will hit the dancefloor soon. Followed by Miss Kittin and the danish Trentemoller, one of the most influential contemporary electronic world’s DJs.

Cosplayers & Japanese Pop Culture Addicts, Japan Anime Live To Shock You Soon in Rome!

The original, authentic show of manga and anime will be in Rome on November 13. Japan Anime Live is the first and official live event made and performed by the Japanese creators of the famous Manga and Anime series. A unique show that brings on stage the “all-star” of Japanese animation such as Naruto Shippuden, Fullmetal alchemist Brotherhood, Bleach, One Piece and Gundam Series.

Japan anime Live is a mix of special episodes displayed on a gigantesque screen, live action, live recitation with the local voice actors, flamboyant effects and live music with Japanese artists.

Over two and half hours of breathtaking performance, divided into five chapters. Each one devoted to an animated series, orchestrated by a script that combines all the different elements of the show.

In fact Japan Anime Live contains what you will never watch on TV: all animations and stories have been re-created and re-edited exclusively for the show. And Live Music, a unique chance to sing along in karaoke mode (Japanese in roman alphabet, very easy to sing!) all the original theme songs of the TV series.

Japan Anime Live is a fast paced pop opera that gives a third dimension to a world of fantasy and its heroes. A time‐space gate that connects the fans with the dreamland of Anime. A “must-attend” event for all cosplayers and Japanese pop culture lovers in general.

African Sounds And “Noisy” Music on Show: N'Dour and Stomp Come to Rome

Rock, pop, classical music. Rome had great concerts of these traditional kinds of music in the last few weeks thanks to the U2, Lang Lang and Prince. And it will have Sting on stage on November 10.

But music is an incredibly varied form of art and goes well beyond these categories. That's why we thought it would be useful to know what else is on offer in Rome.

On November 7, Africa's most famous singer Youssou N'Dour will perform in auditorium Parco della Musica. Senegalese, UNICEF ambassador, actively committed to fight drought, apartheid, HIV and slavery, N'Dour is one of the big names of world music, with his ability to mix multiethnic music languages, African sound and pop with three different languages: english, french and wolof. His concert will start Sunday at 9 pm in 30, Viale Pietro de Coubertin. Online tickets on sale here

From November 9 to November 17, instead, musical noises will please your ears :-) Stomp, written and directed by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, has no words – everyone can understand it. Stomp is eight individuals playing great music out of tools, tyres, bins and other common objects of daily life. It has little or no melody in the traditional sense, so it doesn’t matter if your taste in music is jazz, classical, dance or pop. Stomp is about rhythm, which is common to all cultures. It is a group of people who use simple building blocks to create something complex. The show will be held at Teatro Olimpico, in 17, Piazza Gentile da Fabriano at 9 pm, except Sunday - 6 pm. Street Art Lands In Rome With Space Invaders

Unique trails in the collective space, new signs in the urban landscape, interventions suspended between visibility and anonymity and between real and virtual spaces, icons present in the collective memory and practices of the youngest generations. Invader offers a meaningful and original reading of contemporary culture.

Born in 1969 in Paris, Invader is one of the most important and original international street artists and has exhibited in many prestigious galleries and museums across the world. He is known above all for his public interventions inspired to the Arcade Game Space Invaders, created in 1978 in Japan.

In Rome, the anonymous artist revisits the urban space generating wonder and transforming daily routes into unique journeys. His works will be on display for his first Italian solo show “Roma 2010 and other curiosities" in the Wunderkammern exhibition space until December 21. The exhibition will present various aspect of his work: from the alias replicating the space invaders of Roma to works made with his original RubikCubism technique, by means of the coloured modules of the famous puzzle, re-presenting images extrapolated from the realm of art history or popular culture, along with specific installations and curiosities.
With the invasion of Rome occurred over the summer, the artist has finally added the Italian capital in the list of the more than forty cities he has invaded so far: from Katmandu to Bangkok, New York, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and above all Paris.

Wunderkammern is at 122-124, Via Gabrio Serbelloni. It is open from 5 pm to 8 pm, Monday to Thursday.

A Souvenir Painting From Rome? Head to “100 Painters on Via Margutta”

Via Margutta is a small street in the heart of Rome, on the slopes of Pincio, with an enchanting atmosphere and a special charm of its own. It has preserved its unique atmosphere and decor, and is one of the most elegant and beautiful streets of Rome. Once inhabited by sculptors, film directors and poets, and above all painters, it is now one of our favorite places with all those art galleries, antique dealers, furniture shops, fashion houses and design boutiques.

But when the “100 Painters on Via Margutta” Exhibition takes place, it simply becomes a must for tourists and locals alike since it turns into a huge open-air art gallery where all contemporary styles, techniques and materials are represented. This bi-annual event, featuring Italian and international artists, is organized by a society of painters known as “Cento pittori Via Margutta” that since 1954 exhibited their work in direct contact with the public in this picturesque corner of Rome. This, indeed, is the 85th display of this historical art gathering that has become a key appointment for painting lovers.

After the art show, you might want to pay attention to a couple of buildings. At n. 33 the house of Gregory Peck, where Audrey Hepburn takes refuge in the unforgettable movie Roman Holiday. While at n. 110 you will see where Italian director Federico Fellini and his wife Giulietta Masina lived. I told you Via Margutta is magical!

Long-Awaited Concerts Coming Rome’s Way in November: Prince and Sting

November 10: Sting.

These are the forecoming key dates for pop music lovers here in Rome. After U2′s concert in early October, two big music icons will perform in Rome this fall. After eight years, Prince heads back to Italy with his 20Ten Tour. 20Ten is his last album and the genius from Minneapolis will play both his classics and the songs from his last work. Songwriter, guitarist, actor, director and producer, Prince was very popular especially in the eighties and nineties. His music is a grand mix of funk, classic rock and pop. The concert will be held on November 2 at 9 pm in Palalottomatica in Piazzale dello Sport. You can buy your online tickets here.

Music legend Sting, instead, will perform at the Auditorium Parco della Musica and as an additional musical treat, the concert will be accompanied by the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. Sting is one of the few musicians who was able to find success with a band and as a solo artist, constantly producing a varied composition of music. Some of the songs he will play are: Roxanne, Next To You, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, Every Breath You Take, Englishman in New York, Fragile, Russians, If I Ever Lose My Faith in You, Fields of Gold and Desert Rose. Sting will play with a quartet composed by guitarist Dominic Miller, drummer David Cossin, singer Jo Lawry and bass Ira Coleman. “Jesus Christ Superstar” Back in Rome. Original Version On Stage!

The ever lasting musical Jesus Christ Superstar has come back to Rome running until November 14 and will eventually be performed in English in one of Rome’s biggest and most famous theatres: Teatro Sistina.

The set, though, is contemporary, no 1970s’ stage designing. This cult show by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber has been performed on the most prestigious world stages, a veritable classic of musical comedy.

The rock opera has a live orchestra and features several Italian pop music stars, such as Max Gazzè (Erode) and Mario Venuti (Pilate). The plot is based on Jesus’ last two weeks of life with a mix of rock music, religious topics and modern culture.

The version on show at Teatro Sistina, directed by Massimo Romeo Piparo, has been officially recognized by the Vatican for the Jubilee in 2000.

The Best View On Piazza Navona? Museo di Roma’s Brascafè

A lifted platform where you can savour Italian coffee, offering a unique view of one of Rome's most beautiful squares (if not the best), Piazza Navona. This is Brascafè, the newly inaugurated bar of Museo di Roma. But after you have comfortably sipped your drink at your coffeetable, while admiring the square and the nice humanity that inhabits this place, you might want to visit the beautiful aristocratic palace hosting Brascafè. Museo di Roma, actually, has just renovated itself. Not only does it boast of a scenic bar, but also has two new halls for temporary exhibitions, a new bookshop and can be accessed once again from the monumental gate in piazza Navona. Until January 9, besides its permanent collection of works describing Rome's history, you can see a painting and a photography exhibition about Risorgimento, the political movement that brought to Italy's unification in 1861.
