If you would like to visit the Everest region but are short of time or concerned about altitude this is the perfect trek. This spectacular route will give you an insight into the real Nepal, bring you amazing cultural experiences with the Sherpa people and afford you majestic views of some of the highest mountains in the world including: Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha), Lhotse, Thamserku, Nuptse and Ama Dablam . It begins with an amazing flight over the Himalayas into Lukla. The relatively easy path then leads onto to Namche Bazaar (the gateway to Mount Everest). Ascending a little further you can experience the ancient village of Khumjung (3780m). Here you can witness agriculture that has barely changed in the last two hundred years. Yaks are found here grazing in the alpine meadows and the local school, built by Sir Edmund Hillary, educates the Sherpa children. Your senses will come fully alive with the lively villages, ancient monasteries and its friendly Sherpa people, whose hearts are said to be as big as the surrounding mountains. You can then explore Tangboche monastery. If you visit in October/November time you may be lucky enough to experience the Mani Rimdu festival. This is the most important festival of the Sherpa people and many tourists visit every year to witness the nine days of festivities. There are 16 dances with comical sketches in between, chanting and meditation. The festival ends with the monks performing the masked dance. This displays the defeat of demons and the initiation of Buddhism to Tibet.
