Jaipur is a popular tourist city in India and filled with my friends. I remember that when we were small many forts in the city were our hideouts. Now not all the resorts here is perfect for hide outs but they entertain 100s of tourists every day and some of them are not palace turned resorts.

So in this post I would love to share some of the finest forts which one should explore and even stay.

1. Amer Fort, Tourist Destinations

The Amer Fort (a.k.a the Amber Fort) was built in the 16th century by Raja Man Singh, is the principal tourist attraction situated at a distance of 11 km from the city of Jaipur. The fort offers a unique blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture and customs and is a must explore for all tourists. It is divided into 4 symmetrical parts and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding complexes. The major attractions in the Fort include a temple dedicated to Sila Devi, Diwan-i-Aam or the hall of public audience where the King held audience here to interact with the common people, Diwan-i-Khaas where the King and his family resided and the Zenana region where the queen, mistresses and their female attendants resided.

2. Jaigarh Fort, Tourist Destinations

The Jaigarh Fort is a another beautiful citadel built primarily to protect the Amer Fort by Sawan Jai Singh II. It is connected with the Amer fort through a secret subterranean passage that was designed as an emergency escape route. The Jaigarh Fort is architecturally similar to the Amer Fort and has a huge armory. The major attractions in the fort include Jaivana, the largest cannon in the warld, Ram Harihar Temple, Kal Bhairav Temple, a museum that has old manuscripts, clothes and artworks. It overlooks the city of Jaipur and the Amer Fort and offers panaromic views of the city.

3. Lohagarh Fort Resort, Luxury resort

Lohagarh fort resort was once a lush green farm house maintained by locals entrepreneurs and now its a grand slamluxury resort with private pools, beautiful cottages and tree houses in Jaipur city. Theme is this place is something which attracts couples and even families. Cost here can be a bit costlier but its worth every penny.

4. Raj Palace, Fort Turned Resort

Raj Palace is a medieval fort that has been turned into a luxury resort and is the only Grand Heritage Hotel situated in the city of Jaipur. The hotel provides luxurious facilites like avurvedic massages, herbal treatments, world class amenities and a true Royal experience. You can stay in rooms where the rajput and maharajas actually lived which have been upgraded to modern tastes. The resort has also become a premier wedding destination for Indians as well as foreigners.

5. Castle Kalwar, Fort Turned Resort

The Castle Kalwar Hotel in Jaipur is an unique heritage hotel which was started in the mid-nineteenth century. Before, the hotel came into existence Castle Kalwar was a fort that saw some major historical battles. Located in Kalwar, a small village on the outskirts of Jaipur the hotel offers an opportunity to get away from the hustle-bustle of the city. The hotel is a family run enterprise and preferred by tourists looking for peace and tranquility and by residents looking for a weekend getaway in the Royal Rajput style.
