Every summer during the August bank holiday weekend, a celebration of unique kind and scale, takes place on the streets of west London. The Notting Hill Carnival is an annual celebration of the Caribbean culture – a million people gather to enjoy the spectacle of exotic costumes, dance at the beats of the traditional steel drum bands and savour the Caribbean delicacies -  jerk chicken and fried plantain.

Sunday is the best day to visit, if you are thinking of taking the children to the Notting Hill Carnival – the costume prizes are awarded on Kid’s Day. The main parade takes place on Bank Holiday Monday – it generally begins on Great Western Road, then down Chepstow Road, on to Westbourne Grove, and then Ladbroke Grove.
