Hey there,

Has anyone got striking places to visit in Argentina? I will be travelling for just over two weeks, landing in Buenos Aires where I am planning to spend around 6-8 out of 17 days, then I will spend two nights at Iguazu Falls. So I would have 5-6 days to spend somewhere else.

I know I can't see everything, but...North or Patagonia? Salta or Calafate? I know Calafate is a small place, if I go south what else it's worth visiting? How can I get there? I guess LAN airlines from Buenos Aires?

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks a lot.

Hello Renato, what time of the year will you be coming to Argentina?

Hey there,

I'll be there second and third week of February. I set an itinerary that covers a few days in Buenos Aires, then I am going to Calafate, then flying to Iguassu for a couple of days, then I'll be spending a few days in Buenos Aires before departing for London. Any suggestion on specific places (apart from tango shows that I have already arranged)?

Thanks

Renato

Hands down: Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia. Depending on how active you are, you can do a hike on the glacier and have lunch in the middle of it. It was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had.

Enjoy.

Iguazu is beautiful too!

Have to agree with Ann. Perito Moreno is an absolute must.

If you can squeeze in Ushuaia you could also visit the Tierra Del Fuego National Park and also take a navigation tour of the Beagle Channel.

The Esplendor hotel is a decent place to stay in Calafate and I would recommend the Cilene del faro in Ushuaia.

There are a lot of places...it all depends on what kind of vacation you want...the glaciers are definitely striking..........you might also consider Mendoza the wine region, or Cordoba, the old historic Jesuit city.  I also like Salta, a very pretty city in the north of the country, whose surroundings resemble the US Southwest.......

Hi Renato, Ann is right, the glacier is really worth it. I would suggest Calafate and Ushuaia, or the North-West: Salta, Tucuman and Jujuy. You would be there right in the middle of Carnival in Jujuy and all the province. 6 days is ok to visit Cachi, Cafayate, Salinas Grandes, Salta and the Quebrada de Humahuaca. Weather is hot daytime and nice at night.
Hola Ed,

Where to go depends on the season for the best experience. 2-3 days in iguazu is plenty. Either North or south is beautiful.

I love Salta and the wine country... December Jan is quit rainy.. This is prime time to go south to Calafate, Or Torres de Paine. Spend time in Baralochi, El Bolson flyfishing the river in Cholia valley.

Mendoza is spectacular March- April harvest time fall folige etc..

Cheers, John

Patagonia is stunning and the Perito Moreno glaciar is well worth a visit. Fly to Calafate. Hike on the glaciar, take a horseback ride through wide open spaces, have some wine and relax. I think 2 or 3 days here would be sufficient. You might then be able to sneak in a trip to Mendoza and wine country in the North. I have also been told that zipping into Uruguay is well worth it.

In Buenos Aires, make time for a tango lessson and have the teacher take you to a milonga. The tango shows are great fun, but for an authentic experience of one of the cultural touchstones of the country, you´ve got to try it yourself!! A lovely teacher with good English is Monica Paz.

Best of luck!!
