Labor Day weekend in the NE U.S.A.: Outdoors Getaways?

Want an active getaway, stay at a good place, get a good deal. Could be Vermont, the Cape, depends on deal. Have an idea of what's still available and on sale?

I don't have time to research this for you, David, but here's a suggestion: Find out when Boston resumes its school year. If it's before Labor Day, as it is in many of the western states, then New England is yours that weekend. If not, find out if Maine or New Hampshire or some other state starts school before Labor Day. In general, I've found that Labor Day is no longer the huge travel weekend that it was several decades ago.
