Hi.  I'm a freelance writer/ sub-editor, and having recently started working with TheTravelEditor.com I am currently looking to build on the sites coverage of New York, and more specifically, but not exclusively, New York City.

I would really appreciate if anyone could suggest any contacts within the NY tourism industry, be they at the tourist board of a PR office, to help with my work.

I will be focusing my writing and editing efforts on this region for the foreseeable future and am looking to develop mutually beneficial working relationships with anyone involved.

Similarly if anyone is interested in contributing any copy relating to the New York area, for example hotel/ restaurant reviews, travel features etc, please get in touch.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Gareth Vipers

Gareth, sorry I wasn't able to get back to you sooner on this. You probably know by now that the official rep for NYC tourism is NYC & Company; here's the p.r. page: http://www.nycgo.com/index.cfm?event=view.press&id=42390

And now, here's the problem: I've been a journalist in this town for almost 30 years, and as of last year I'm also the president of the New York Travel Writers Association, so I've had some experience watching how things work. And it's always seemed to me that this city is too damned big for any one organization to represent -- or even to keep up with. That sort of thing works for Seville and Charleston, but not for New York. So ultimately, I think, we're left contacting individual restaurants, hotels, museums, stores, neighborhood associations, etc.

Congratulations on your new assignment; you couldn't have picked a riper, more interesting town to write about.
