I'm considering a trip to Peru sometime between June 2010 and June 2011 - probably 10-14 days - to take in Lima, Cusco, Arequipa and Puno. I haven't been in Peru since September 1992 and would appreciate any current info including new regulations for the Inca Trail; the train from Cusco to/accommdations at Machu Picchu; the Santa Catalina Convent in Arequipa; and, Lake Titicaca.

Thanks for any help/contacts that you can provide...

May I ask why you are limiting your trip to the southern region of Peru? I would recommend the north for at least a portion of your trip - fewer tourists, great sites, etc. Also, just outside of Lima (90 minutes) is the recently WH listed site of Caral. It's fantastic and little known.

Best wishes,

Sentimental reasons. My adopted twin sons (20) were born in Puno - they have not been back since 1992. I wanted them to see where they were born and where they spent their first 2 years - and to visit some of the places that I enjoyed during my time there 1991-1992.

Regards,
Colin
That sounds like a really nice trip for you. One of my clients at PromPeru is from Puno - I can email her for some suggestions if you like. Most of them are away til next week on holidays, but her name is Luisa and her family own a candelaria in Lima as well. She's quite young but very nice and speaks english well.

Hello Colin,
I havent' been to Peru but if you're in Cuzco look up the two Irish pubs and tell the owners you know me. One is from my home town in Ireland and the other I used to work with in Russia a liftetime ago. I think the bars are called Rosy O'Gradys (my Moscow contact) and the other is Paddy O'Flaherty's my hometown (Carlow) contact.
Sorry I can't be of more use but I'm sure if you mention my name you'll get a free beer or better.
Brendan
