I am planning a trip to Africa in NOV-13 to view the eclipse and a couple of safaris.
I'm comfortable with the plans and the outfitter.
However, I am also planning a trip to climb Kilimanjaro - with a gap week in between the two adventures.
So my question is what to do during the gap week -
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Hello Jim,
Many local tour operators have packages for the lunar eclipse, and its on 3rd Nov not 13th.
Road transport will give you better opportunities for photography as opposed to traveling by air. There are good coaches/bus which travel between Kenya and Arusha in Tanzania, and cost about 40USD one way from Nairobi.
Turkana area where the eclipse will be best viewed has rich culture and the land scape is very scenic; travel by road...
Feel free to visit our site www.africacalling.co.ke for more info. we are happy to tailor make a trip/give you advise and tips on how to go about it,
Thanks,

Thanks Bendetta.
Just the advice I was looking for.
Sorry for the confusion that was NOV-2013.
I am doing the safari ending with eclipse on the 3rd/4th.
The climb is scheduled for 11-NOV-2013. 11 days via Lemosho Rte.
The gap trip is my main concern and if you can plan something other than a safari, that would be great. My ideal would be if I get some elevation ~10,000 ft, rather than the suggestions I've received to got to Zanzibar.

Thanks too Jim,
Get it now. below, if am not wrong, below are your travel dates/free dates where you want to include a trip:
4th November, end your eclipse safari in Turkana.
5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, - FREE days.
10th Nov, you need to be in Nairobi, inorder to connect in time with your bus/coach to Arusha. they have 2 departures in a day, i.e 8 am in the morning and again at 2pm.
For the safari/trip, as earlier suggested, road transport will be the best option. Turkana, and parts of Northern Kenya will give you best options for the photo safari. The communities who live on those sides still keep their culture, and the land scapes are scenic! For the Maasai, who have also kept their cultures and therefore could give you another great opportunity for photography are also found in Tanzania, and you can see if yu can get time and visit a local Masai village in the course of your safari in Tanzania.
Below are my ideas/suggestions:
On 4th, when the other group is coming back to Nairobi or moving to the next destination, you remain in Turkana, and we meet you there and continue with your next program,( we suggest a cultural experience trip, it will be ideal) and the local people photography might be of intrest to you?
Also, note that 4WD will be the be used for the trip, and accommodation might not be 5* category! in some areas might camp. You will also need a guide who is conversant with the area, and also note that if we have to send a vehicle from Nairobi to Turkana, give it 2 days in advance to get there!.
Await to hear from you,
Thanks Sharyn.
I have already made my arrangements.
