Hey guys, just writing an article on voluntourism (inspired by the Tribeswanted piece in the Telegraph over the weekend). Anyone have any suggestions for other voluntourism companies such as Tribeswanted? Cheers Mike

Tribewanted is pretty much a unique project which now operates in both Fiji (where they have been successful in creating a sustainable community and cultural exchange program which injects much needed cash into the local community whilst using sustainable development techniques which are implemented into the village construction plan) and Sierra Leone (the newest project which was mentioned in the Guardian).

In terms of similar voluntourism projects such as Tribewanted's, I have not yet come across any... however, here are some examples of voluntourism projects based in the Gambia which may interest you. These projects are award winning and work on a unique model whereby 3/4 of the fee stays in the destination.

I hope this helps.
Hi Mike,
Might be worth checking out www.barefoot-tonga.com, which an old friend runs.
All the best

Hi Mike,

I'm the manager of Travelocity's Travel for Good program and we award grants for deserving people to take volunteer vacations. I can highly recommend all four of our partners.

Earthwatch Institute

Globe Aware
Cross-Cultural Solutions
American Hiking Society

Good luck!

If you need an example of Tourism Lite, there's City of Joy, a new operation in the Cancun area: http://www.yougodo.com/en/Voluntourism-Yucatan-Explorer-Mexico/acti... I'll be visiting it next week.

Our company offers truly unique voluntourism opportunities in most of our destinations. However, some of the most prominent organizations we support are located in Tanzania, where our sister non-profit organization, Charities Within Reach, frequently operates. A former client was so inspired by her climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro with us that she actually started her own orphanage, school and clinic, called Make a Difference NOW! We lead annual charity climbs and week-long volunteer projects in support of her facility. A number of our clients also choose to work with Comic Relief, a Tanzanian clinic funded by comedians. We also lead annual trips to Nepal for the Free a Child campaign which works to educate volunteers on the conditions which lead to sex trafficking of children and allows them to help. You can find out more about our volunteer opportunities abroad by clicking on the link below or e-mailing us at info@adventureswithinreach.com You can also call us with any questions at 877 232-5836, and ask to speak to Barb or Robin.
