Kansas

What's the matter with Kansas? For travelers, darn little! It mixes grasslands with rolling hills, farm country with cities like Wichita, Topeka, and Lawrence (this last with an active cultural scene). History, wineries, great outdoors, more.

On the conclusion of our Midwest Baseball Tour at The World on Wheels, we take a side trip to Monroe Elementary School in Topeka, Kansas...where Oliver Brown's daughter attended. They're better known as the Brown in Brown v. The Topeka Board of Education, a landmark suit for civil rights. Now, it's a national historic monument. With video and pictures, we also visit the state historical museum and find one heck of a good comfort food restaurant: http://tinyurl.com/37lhfcy

Probably not the original HH, it was in Overland Park. Loved Gates though. Yes, Kauffman was a huge suprise, loved it and the fountains.

Gosh, Darryl - I have to take exception to some of your reporting about your presence in Missouri. You obviously didn't eat at the original Hereford House, since it was destroyed by arson fire last year.
But glad you liked Kauffman Stadium. It really is one of the prettiest ballparks in the majors. Isn't the fountain spectacular?!

Admittedly, not the most exciting city for public transit but the one I have the most recent experience with...check out our new Transit Report for Kansas City today on The World on Wheels: http://tinyurl.com/2a4phtt

It will be a little while before I can get the full reports together, but if you'd like to see the highlights (and a couple of disappointments) from our recent Midwest Baseball Tour, go to this link at The World on Wheels: http://tinyurl.com/2de8sat
