Maldives , if you have knowledge about the issues and realize that the main atoll , where the Gov. and 450K Citizens are living, than you will realize that Male is very easily bypassed. Any anger is not directed against the Tourists as the people depend on the Health of Tourism, There are reasons for what is reported that I will not discuss, There is no reason not to keep Vacationing in the Far spread island Paradise, we are not seeing Terrorism...
This past few weeks, Maldives is undergoing a political turmoil and low simmering protests. The President was deposed and another one has taken over. There were protests that became violent.
I am in India at the moment, and the news reports indicate that domestic tourism has been hit. Maldives is a popular honeymoon destination for a lot of Indians who do not need a visa to visit the country.
Without delving into the political issues involved, it is presumed that high end resorts are bound to have minimal impact, but others may see a decline for a couple of weeks or months.
