Maryland

Packing a lot into a small Midatlantic package, it offers urbanity (Baltimore, DC bedroom communities Rockville & Bethesda), beach resorts (Ocean City), quaint Chesapeake bay towns, and one of America's prettier state capitals, Annapolis.

Today at The World on Wheels, it's our latest entry into our Fields of Dreams reports. It's Orioles Park at Camden Yards, one of baseball's classic stadiums.

Plenty of patriotic celebrations in Baltimore,* but let's not forget to have some fun, too, huh?  http://www.tripatini.com/profiles/blogs/baltimore-travel-museum

*The 199th anniversary of the Star-Spangled Banner is Sept. 14.

Delighted to be joining this group. I'm now blogging for Chesapeake Life Magazine, with Delmarva Drives. That's also the name of my website:
www.delmarvasdrives.com. It's a work in progress, an on-line resource for all activities, culture, and food in Southern Delaware and the Eastern Shores of Maryland & Virginia.

Maryland, my Maryland. What a beautiful state, and it is my pleasure to bring getaway ideas in Maryland the other Mid-Atlantic states to our followers at www.tripsandgetaways.com.

Just heard from my pal Mark over at Hilton Hotels about a deal that might make baseball fans perk up a bit. How many hotels can you think of with literally a front-row seat at a Major League stadium? The gym and plenty of the 757 rooms at the fancy new Hilton Baltimore, which opened last August, have bird's-eye views of the field at Camden Yards right next door -- equivalent to rooftop viewing but better because the views are unobstructed. So during its first ball season, now through October 4 (now just under 40 Orioles home games), management's trying to leverage this by offering a discount "Room With a View" package: $229 gets four people (family, pals, two couples, whatever) a room to share and watch the game from, plus breakfast and tickets to the Sports Legends Museum. Sounds kinda cool, actually, even if the Orioles are off to a sucky start this season -- it's still early days, folks. And you can always time it to when your home team's in town, right?
