Recreation offers extremes as well, from a peaceful stroll through wildflower meadows to world-class white-water rafting. Road should be open early June!

The LA Times, my local paper now that I've moved, reports that Los Angeles may institute a new hotel tax. Meanwhile, Portland, one of my favorite cities, has the lowest taxes on visitors of the 50 major city destinations in the U.S.A.
