Mongolia

Tibet
Turkmenistan
Uzbekistan

Most concentration is done of the route west of Xian - however the Silk Road also went east of Xian.

In our website www.bestway.com we gave an extensive range of tours that cover the west including the Central Asia countries notably Uzbekistan. These were all part of the ex Soviet Republics.

I just googled Silk Road and found a lot of information about history and everything else -- too much information to retell here, even though I was a history teacher for 15 years.


The main thing is to know that there are two kinds of sources for this information on the internet: 1) objective essays about history and culture, and 2 ) information on websites of hotels and tour operators that is there to help market the company. Some of that information, too, is surprisingly good.
