About Catalonia

Welcome to one of Europe's most beautiful and dynamic corners, Catalunya (Catalonia). The whole world already knows our fabulous capital Barcelona; many know our wonderful Catalonia beaches, from the Costa Brava in the north down to the Costa Daurada in the south; and of course there's our beloved world-champion Barça football club!

Furthermore, increasing numbers of foodies around the world have become familiar with our exquisite Catalonia wines (cava sparkling wine, Priorat, and others) and gastronomy, from the traditional pagés cookery to cutting-edge modern cuisine pioneered by Ferran Adrià, the Roca brothers, Carme Ruscalleda, and other world culinary giants.

Our art is unparalleled, as well, with museums and collections showcasing the likes of Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, Juli González, and Antoni Tàpies (and of course let's not forget one of the world's most famous architects, Antoni Gaudì!). Catalan music is very important to us, as well, and figures such as Montserrat Caballé, Pau Casals, and José Carreras have strode large on the world stage.

Somewhat less well known are our gorgeous medieval cities, towns, and sites inland in the provinces of Barcelona, Tarragona, Girona, and Lleida, such as Poblet monastery, Vic, Besalú, and Rupit. Not to mention spectacular ancient sites like Tarragona city's Roman amphitheatre and other ruins and the ancient Greek ruins of Empúries in Girona. You can even visit a segment of the ancient Roman walls of Barcelona under its Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter)!

And finally, our great outdoors also makes Catalonia a magnificent destination for a wide panoply of activities on both land and sea, including hiking, biking, horseback riding, kayaking, rock climbing, mountaineering, paragliding, and skiing/snowboarding (some truly amazing winter resorts are located in the Catalan Pyrenees mountains).

All of this comes in a context of a distinctive language and culture with a proud lineage dating back more than 1,100 years.

Come discover the magic of Catalonia!

Thank you for your friend request. I invite you to check out my Jewish Heritage Travel Group here, and post relevant Catalonian attractions.  Hopefully I will be adding my own experiences after my planned press trip in 2019.
