Bhutan is a dream for bird watchers, with a stunning 770 species found, including many that are globally threatened. The rich diversity of Bhutan’s bird species is mainly due to its moist climate, wide range of altitude (from 150m at the southern border to over 7550m Himalayas in the north), low population density, vast forest cover and the government’s strong conservation policy. In contrast, North America has about 800 species of birds, in a land mass 400 times bigger than Bhutan.

Bird Watching trips are for travelers who thrive on discovery and learning. On this trip, you will be a part of the exploration, setting the plans for those to follow, by helping make decisions of what to do next, sharing insights and your personal discoveries with guides and conservation organizations. While the recorded number of bird species in Bhutan is 770, the actual number is expected to be much more. No serious survey and study on birds in Bhutan has been carried out so far. There are tremendous opportunities for bird watchers to discover more bird species, their occurrence, distribution, etc. This trip will be lead by a local expert or a Bhutanese guide trained in bird identification. It will include short day hikes and several days of camping along the road in areas of dense forests.
