Amber is everywhere in Gdańsk: in shops, market stalls, museums and galleries. Rough and raw, it can be found – if you are lucky - on many of the nearby sunny Baltic beaches.
Amber is fossilized tree resin which has been appreciated for its colour and natural beauty since Neolithic times.
In Roman times, the area was a destination for traders, who carried the stone southwards along the Amber Trail.

The Amber stadium is already quiet and the teams and fans are leaving.
The local businesses and tourist industry are sad to see them go. The city truly enjoyed the colour, good humour and decent behaviour of the fans, but the Irish were their star favourites. No other fans could be so friendly, sing, play and lose in such great style.
The German team is moving on the semi finals in Warsaw.

Gdansk is one of four Polish venues of UEFA EURO 2012. We are running a Gdansk city weekend on 25 May and a 6 day tour starting in the city on 30 June. This rote takes in woods, lakes and castles, as well as Hitler's bunker.
