A Taste of Sedona, Arizona

Sedona. The name has become synonymous with the spiritual, mystic, peaceful. It is indeed a lovely place and each of those adjectives suits it well.

It is a place where red rocks rise up out of red-colored earth of the same hue. Native American flute music plays through my mind as I traverse the trails and the roadways. It suits it perfectly.…

Positively Grand Canyon

If you have been to the Grand Canyon I need not explain it. If you have never been to the Grand Canyon, I can’t completely explain it.

But here goes: It is beautiful. It is stunning. It is awesome. It is mesmerizing. Pictures cannot do it justice. For some, it is a spiritual - even mystical -…

Road Trip Out of Flagstaff, Arizona

I crammed a lot into my one day in Flagstaff. Now it was time to move on, and my reservation for the next night was at the Grand Canyon's Yavapai Lodge. I was anxious to get going, but first thing in the morning I had a good…

Pyramid Power in Northern Illinois

There are unusual homes and then there are - unusual homes.

Located in Wadsworth, IL, near the shopping mecca of Gurnee Mills and the Six Flags theme park, is a most unusual home. A  pyramid shaped house, it is a destination in itself.

When Jim and Linda Onan built the house as a private residence for themselves and their four…

Positively Starved Rock (as in Illinois State Park)

This past weekend I took advantage of the break in the weather to join some friends on a winter hike in Starved Rock State Park. The park is located along the Illinois River, about 100 miles southwest of Chicago, just outside Utica, IL.

I remember going there as a kid. My family would take a picnic lunch and we would hike the trails. I remember the canyons…

A Tour of New Orleans' French Quarter

As I wandered the streets of the French Quarter on my recent visit I was so thankful that it had survived. What a tragedy it would have been to lose all of this – this history, this architecture, this joie de vivre that is New Orleans. It is not nicknamed The Big Easy for nothing!

Window dressing…

Positively Charleston!

From the Low Country of South Carolina we traveled up to the city of Charleston to spend a couple of days. I have to say Charleston is one of the most walkable cities I’ve ever been to. Our bed and breakfast was located just half a block off King  Street (a shopaholic’s dream) - in a large old house with a charming courtyard in the back – and a porch that was perfect for breakfast and afternoon tea.  …
