Bad Santas: The Thugs and Thiefs of Icelandic Christmas

Everybody loves Santa Claus. That jolly “big boned” fellow that zooms across the continents on his sleigh to give us presents is obviously a welcome guest to most. But Icelanders have a lot darker tradition and Icelanders being Icelanders, it is a bit weird as well.

A rusty fate for a century old steel giant

Garðar BA 64 is thought to be the oldest steelship in Iceland, built in Norway as a whaling vessel exactly one hundred years ago. Not only has this ship an impressive history it now provides photographer with the most impressive photographic motives found in Iceland.

The Empire of the Fox

In the fog I could see dark shapes moving in parallel to us, watching us. I immediately realized that these were artic foxes, the only original Icelandic wild animal!
