Amber (Amer) Fort

Just 11 kilometres from the state capital Jaipur, Amer was initiated under Raja Man Singh in 1592 and completed under by Raja Jai Singh I. Overlooking Maota Lake, it represents a great work of fusion of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Apart from the well-decorated walls, the courtyards give a rich look to the fort. The must-sees in here are the ‘Diwan-e-Aam’, Tripoli Gate, Lion Gate, Zenana region and also the Sheesh Mahal.



Jaisalmer Fort

Built in 1156 under the Bhati Rajput king Rao Jaisal (for whom it's named), Jaisalmer is also known as Sonar Quila  (Golden Fort) after the yellow sandstone walls of the citadel. The monument is a massive one, situated on Trikuta Hill in the Thar. Its major attractions are the Raj Mahal, the Lakshimath Temple, the Jain Temples and the gateways. The havelis of the residents were also built inside the fort itself, their floors and windows of particular note; most have been already converted into museums to help visitors understand the lifestyles of the royals.
