From Taj Mahal’s serene view to Agra Fort’s fine Mughal architecture, Agra has so much to offer. Check out these 6 places in AGRA that everyone should visit at least once in his/her lifetime.

Taj Mahal

The major tourist attraction in Agra, Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his 3rd wife Mumtaz Mahal.

Crowned as one of the 7 wonders of the world, Taj Mahal features the finest (and breathtaking) work of Mughal, Islamic and Persian architecture. Its magnificent structure, intricate artistic work, surrounding gardens and water channels will leave you spellbound.

If you happen to be in Agra during the Taj Mahotsav (it usually happens in February) then don’t miss it. The festival showcases the finest works of Indian Artisans in the form of craft, dance, music and so much more.

If you have a tight schedule then you can book a same day Taj Mahal tour by train.

Agra Fort

After Taj Mahal, Agra Fort is the 2nd most famous place to visit in Agra. It was built by Emperor Akbar in 1573. Situated on the right bank of Yamuna River, Agra Fort showcases a grander structure made entirely of Redstone. It has been recognized as the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The architecture of Agra Fort is one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture. The Fort includes Pearl Mosque, Diwan-i I Khas, Diwan-i I Aam, Moti Masjid and Jahangiri Mahal, made with exquisite handwork. The best thing about Agra Fort is that you can get a beautiful view of Taj Mahal from it.

The splendid layout and structure of Agra Fort make it a must-visit place in Agra. So, even if you’re going for the same day taj mahal tour by car then don’t miss out on Agra Fort.

Baby Taj (Itimad-ud-daulah's Tomb)

Itimad-ud-daulah's Tomb is also known as Baby Taj. Made of Marble, this tomb again features beautiful Indo-Islamic architecture. Did you know that Baby Taj is the first mausoleum in India which is entirely made of Marble?

The tomb has arched entrances and octagonal shaped towers. Did you also know that Taj Mahal was inspired by Itimad-ud-daulah's Tomb? If you didn’t then it’s okay because most of the people don’t know that.

Akbar’s Tomb

Akbar’s Tomb in Fatehpur Sikri is not a very well-known place because most of the people are interested in visiting Taj Mahal and Agra Fort only. However, this forgotten monument showcases a combination of Indo-Islamic architecture. The intricate work done on the gates and walls of the tomb will leave you spellbound.

Situated at Sikandra, the tomb’s structure begins with a 70-foot tall gate, also known as Buland Darwaza. The gate has calligraphic designs along with floral patterns made in the white marble. Surrounded by lush green gardens, the tomb is a must-visit place in Agra.

Fatehpur Sikri

Founded by Akbar, Fatehpur Sikri is one of the UNESCO recognized heritage sites in India. Jodha Bai's palace, Jama Mosque, Buland Darwaza, Panch Mahal, Ibadat Khana and a Tomb of Salim Chisti are some of the famous tourist attractions in Fatehpur Sikri.

Featuring Indo-Islamic architecture, Fatehpur Sikri has an 11 km long fortification wall and this wall has various gateways. The beautiful architecture and rich history associated with Fatehpur Sikri make it a must-visit place.

Mehtab Bagh

Mehtab Bagh is one of the last Mughal gardens in India. The symmetrical structure of the garden lends a picturesque view to the Taj Mahal.

The architecture of Mehtab Bagh features 4 gardens layout. The Garden includes an Octagonal domed tower made of Redstone and an Octagonal pond located at its southern side. The best part about the pond is that it displays the reflection of Taj Mahal which makes it a must-visit place in Agra. Book overnight Agra tour to see Sunrise and Sunset views of the Taj Mahal.
