Only 1 hour 30 mn from Paris begins the Champagne-Ardennes region. Known to be the area where French and Germans fought during WWI, this is also historically the region of Champagne ! This sparkling wine that only french can name "Champagne" !
We will drive to Reims, and our first cellar visit will be Taittinger. This house has a really good wine and a spirit. I chose this cellar because it's not too big, too crowded and the history of this cellar with the city of Reims is interesting. After the visit of the cellar of course you could taste their wine and enjoy very affordable prices for shopping.
For lunch, direction the Drouet d'Erlon square ! Behind this name hides the most popular place for the "Remois" ( the inhabitants of Reims ) to have lunch and dinner, far from mass tourism complex. I will advise you my favourite restaurant on the place, "le Gaulois", a lovely restaurant decorated on the Art Deco style, like most of the city of Reims.
In the afternoon, we will drive to Epernay, situated 30mn drive from Reims. This is the "place to be" for Champagne ! This is here that most of the grapes are produced. During summer you can see an ocean of grapes on Epernay, this is a magical spectacle ! In Epernay you will visit Moet et Chandon's cellar. This huge cellar produces one of the best Champagne in France : The Grand Vintage Champagne is absolutely amazing, an to be tasted absolutely !
