Cash and Travelers Cheques exchange is available in the banks and some Foreign Currency Exchange agencies for most of the main currencies like the US dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen, Thai Baht, Pound Sterling, Swiss Franc, Hong Kong dollar, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, Singapore dollar, Danish kroner, Norwegian kroner, and Swedish kroner.

foreign currency can be exchanged on arrival at the airport, or in banks. Banking hours are from 9am to 3 pm in winter and from 9am to 4 pm the rest of the year.

In general cash is always more convenient because in smaller towns apart from Thimphu and Paro, using traveller cheques or Visa cards are not very popular. Therefore, carry enough cash if you plan to visit some distant places in Bhutan.
