Everest Base Camp Trek from Nepal -16 Days

The trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp continues to be one of our most rewarding journeys. You will have a day to explore the exotic city of Kathmandu before flying into the remote mountain town of Lukla (9,350 feet) to begin our trek into the Khumbu region of the Himalayas. The views of the Himalayan mountains from Lukla on a clear day are breathtaking.

We follow an ancient route that will take us through tiny villages, across high mountain passes, and through remote valleys, villages, and monasteries. The views grow even more spectacular as we venture up the Dudh Kosi River to Namche Bazaar, the gateway to the Khumbu region at 11,300 feet. We will spend a night next to the Thyangboche monastery (12,887 feet), where you will be rewarded with spectacular views of Ama Dablam, Mt. Everest, and Lhotse.

A non-technical climb of Kala Pattar (18,450 feet) highlights the truly spectacular panorama of Sagamartha (Mt. Everest), the Mother Goddess of the World (29,028 feet), and Lhotse (27,560 feet).

Spending the better part of two days at Everest Base Camp will give us plenty of time for exploring the base of the tallest mountain in the world!

The return trek continues to delight adventurous souls with more spectacular mountain views, lush forested valleys, and opportunities to learn about the Nepalese religion and culture.

ITINERARY
 

Day 01 - ARRIVE KATHMANDU

 

Arrive Kathmandu.Met/assisted at the Kathmandu airport with flower garlands and transferred by Private vihicle  to hotel.Overnight. 
 
Day 02  - KATHMANDU SIGHTSEEING     
 
This morning begin a visit of the city which includes Durbar Square, the historic centre of Kathmandu in which the Temple of the Living Goddess is located. In this temple a small girl is selected from a particular clan of craftspeople after extensive ritual, and is declared a goddess. She lives in the temple until puberty, after which she is given a life pension and a new goddess is found. The central courtyard of the temple is superbly crafted, with extensive carving on windows and balconies and an elaborate shrine. Also visit Hanuman Dhoka, a restored palace and temple complex, devoted to the famous monkey-god Hanuman. By the main entrance to the palace complex is a statue of Hanuman. The figure is shielded by a golden umbrella and his face has been covered with red paste by devotees so that his features are now completely obscured. Inside this large compound are many different courtyards and buildings, both religious and secular.
 
After lunch visit Patan, the second largest city in the Kathmandu Valley. Patan was once an independent Malla kingdom, its origins dating back 2,000 years. The city houses the fantastic 12th century Buddhist Monastery, Hiranya Varna Mahavihar, which is among the finest in the country. Its gold-plated roof, courtyard with many prayer wheels and richly decorated three-storied temple are superb. The elaborately-decorated buildings, statues, temples, palaces and shrines found in the Durbar Square here, mostly date from the 17th century, when the artistic patronage of the Malla kings was at its most inspired.  

 

 

Day 03 - KATHMANDU/LUKLA/PHAKDING • 8,700 feet

We fly on a twin-engine Otter to the Himalayan foothills where we will begin our trek into the Khumbu region. The views from the plane are amazing, providing dramatic views of terraced hills and the distant Himalayan giants. After landing in the village of Lukla (9,350 feet) we will meet the rest of our staff and porters and trek for about two and a half hours to Phakding. Here we will meet up with trekkers who have participated in the Jiri extension. B, L, D

Day 04 - NAMCHE BAZAAR • 11,300 feet

We continue trekking along the banks of the Dudh Kosi, crossing this majestic river many times on exciting suspension bridges laden with prayer flags. After entering Sagamartha National Park, the trail climbs steeply with breathtaking views to Namche Bazaar, the gateway to the Khumbu region. B, L, D

Day 05 - NAMCHE BAZAAR • 11,300 feet

Today is a rest and acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar. Namche is a colorful village with many wonderful and interesting shops and vendors, fabulous food, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. An early hike above town, before the clouds move in, will reward climbers with a spectacular Himalayan sunrise and views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse (the 4th highest peak in the world), and the beautiful Ama Dablam. On the way down, we can visit the Sherpa Museum that houses an exhibit on traditional Sherpa lifestyle and a fabulous photography display by a local Nepalese naturalist. One room highlights the Sherpa traditions and in another, Sherpa high altitude climbers are presented. B, L, D

Day 06 - THYANGBOCHE • 12,887 feet

The trek continues along the rushing glacial waters of the Dudh Kosi with magnificent views of the mountains. We will spend the night next to the Thyangboche monastery, the spiritual center of Khumbu region. Inside the monastery are incredibly ornate wall hangings, a 20-foot sculpture of Buddha, and the musical instruments and robes of the Lamas. If our group is lucky, we will see the Lama perform a ceremony and hear the mystical chanting and music. B, L, D

Day 07 - DINGBOCHE • 14,250 feet

From Thyangboche the trail drops to Debuche, crosses another exciting suspension bridge on the Imja Khola, and climbs to Pangboche amongst thousands of mani stones. Our uphill trek continues, taking us to the quaint traditional Sherpa village of Dingboche with its exquisite views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam. B, L, D 

Day 08 - DZUGLA • 15,075 feet

From Dingbouche the trail traverses through farmlands and meadows before continuing along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. We will stop in Dzugla, giving our bodies plenty of time to rest and relax amidst the majestic mountains of Nepal. B, L, D

Day 09 - LOBUCHE • 16,175 feet

Today's trail continues along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and passes by stone memorials for climbers who have perished on nearby summits. We follow the trail to Lobuche and camp just below the terminal moraine of a tributary glacier. B, L, D

Day 10 - GORAK SHEP • 17,000 feet

After an early morning start, we ascend Kala Pattar (18,450 feet) and enjoy famous views of the Himalayas, without having to climb Everest! That evening we camp beneath Kala Pattar at Gorak Shep. B, L, D

Day 11 - EVEREST BASE CAMP • 17,575 feet

In the event of bad weather, we have the opportunity for a second chance to climb Kala Pattar. Today we will also continue our trek to Everest Base Camp, located at the foot of the Khumbu icefall. We'll spend the day at Everest/Lhotse Base Camp, giving you a chance to thoroughly explore this historic area. B, L, D

Day 12 - PERICHE • 13,950 feet

We head down the glacier and reenter the lush and beautiful valleys, surrounded by spectacular snow-capped peaks. Upon reaching the village of Pheriche we will visit the Himalayan Rescue Association's Trekker's Aid Post. B, L, D

Day 13 - NAMCHE BAZAAR • 11,300 feet

Today we trek back along the Dudh Kosi river through a magnificent rhododendron forest and past brilliant waterfalls. Shortly before reaching Namche, the trek takes us through a pine forest, where musk deer often graze in the early morning. Arriving in town, we may see lowland porters, highland Sherpas, and Tibetan people trading food and supplies during Namche's market time. B, L, D

 Day 14 - LUKLA • 9,350 feet

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla where we will spend the night. B, L, D

Day 15 -KATHMANDU • 4,383 feet

If the weather is clear, the morning flight back to Kathmandu will be a scenic and smooth farewell to the mountains.Arrive Kathmandu,transfer to hotel.day Free

Day 16 - DEPARTURE

Free until deaprture transfer to airport for fly back or onward destination
