Dark clouds, thunderstorms, chill wind and continuous rainfall, all come together to adorn Mother Nature with the advent of monsoon. Monsoon is when rain drops glitter on tree leaves, butterflies dance merrily on flowers; crops grow fully to make the farmers smile and an overall cool pleasant environment bring respite to millions of people. This is the only time of the year when the entire landscape blooms in green and early morning fogs carpet the might hills of the Indian subcontinent. Destinations like Goa, Kashmir, Munnar, Wayanad, Darjeeling and Shillong get completely drenched in rain and come out with a completely different shade of grey, blue and green. Traveling to these places during monsoons is the perfect way to enjoy their splendid beauty and keep you thousands feet apart from tensions and tiredness. While monsoons are considered to be off season for travel, lower price, fewer crowds and greater chance of bargaining make this season an ideal time to set off for a vacation. Here are some tips which you can follow to make the most of your monsoon vacation.
Appropriate dressing: when you are on a monsoon holiday, I am sure you would love to get drenched at some point of time. So it is good if you opt for loose fitting or short clothes like cotton t-shirts, three quarter pants and cotton tanks instead of jeans and heavy tops. This is because cotton clothes dry up easily as compared to heavy ones. Carry not-so expensive clothing and something which are not in your list of favorites, all because you might need to step of muddy fields and wet grass.
Cover your feet with proper shoes: keep away those local made flip-flops as they tend to be less protective in slippery grounds and chances of falling down are high. Carry a pair of comfortable sandals, well- shoes, leather boots, light weight sneakers or gumboots to protect yourself. Take full protection against the overflowing sewers and slippery roads.
Pack essentials: during monsoons the whole environment becomes wet and sticky. A lot of insects start crawling on the ground or flying over your head. So pack disinfectants, mosquito repellants, anti- itching lotions and antiseptic liquids in a different kit. This reduces the chances of suffering from constant irritation as a result of insect bites. Also purchase a water resistant to pack important stuffs like phones, cameras, credit card packs, wallets and medicines. Also remember to carry a torch, a candle and matchsticks because power cuts are common during rainy season. In an unknown destination at dark, these objects are of great help. Also while walking through the forests for adventure; a torch light becomes your best guide.
Umbrella and raincoats: carry a heavy- duty umbrella to protect yourself from the raindrops because the strong winds have a tendency in bowling them away. Also put in a pocket friendly raincoat which you can easily wear in case of heavy showers.
So now just pack your bags carefully and plan your monsoon holiday in India. You will get utterly pampered by the raindrops, fragrance of wet soil, cool fast blowing breeze and all overall pristine beauty of nature.
