How To Pest Proof Your Camper for the Winter

During winter, pests can still be a real problem for us. And one of the main concerns for camper and static home owners is the threat of rodents. Mice and rats will want to hole up for the winter in your camper, and can squeeze through the tiniest gaps to help keep them warm. They will also be seeking food as well as shelter for the colder months.

Rodents in your camper can do a lot of damage – damage which then has to be declared to your insurance company. Upholstery is particularly at risk, and the damage can sometimes cost a lot of money to put right. Not to mention rat pest control costs if you are paying London prices.

 

Nobody wants to face a mess and smell that rodents being in your camper can bring, especially when you open it up for the first time at the start of the new season. Pest control measures are an important part of wintering your camper. So it’s worth taking the proper precautions to prevent rodents making themselves unwelcome visitors in your holiday camper in the winter months – or at any other time of the year.

 

Having a constant supply of food and a cosy, warm place to sleep that has easy access route is rich pickings for pests like mice and rats. So we are going to share with you the top ways you can stop vermin getting into your camper in the first place.

• Give your camper a thorough clean before you leave it for long periods of time. This includes making sure there are no crumbs or bits of fluff on the floor, and pay particular attention to the fridge and bins.

 

• Remove all packets of dried foods such as cereals, rice, biscuits and pet food. If you do need to store any food, make sure they are put in metal, sealed containers.

 

• Remove any paper products, like kitchen and toilet roll.

 

• Take a look under your camper and around the outside to see if there’s any gaps where the pipework enters the main body. Fill these holes in with wire wool or fine mesh to stop a pests easy access.

 

• Check around the windows and doors for broken seals that need replacing.

 

• Remove cushions, bedding and seating cushions if possible. All of these materials make great nests for rodents. Storing these items in your home means they stay dry as well, so it also prevents damp.
