We really did need a police convey to go from Hurghada to Luxor because of tourist threats. They don’t recommend that tourists drive the long dessert highway between Hurghada and Luxor so we hired a car and were in a long line of tour buses and other travelers. It was quite the experience! We did not feel in danger but I would rather have the Egyptian government be over protective.
To cut down on costs we were using points to see at the Sheraton in Luxor, it was clean, the shower was hot and the bed was comfortable. Sometimes you don’t need much more Our main goal in Luxor was to se all the great sights in the few days we had there.
The must see places are:
The Temples of Karnak and Luxor
Valley of the Kings and Queens
You could spend hours at each of these and in the dessert heat it can be a bit overwhelming but worth it!
Lots of pictures and just a few words. I truly think the pictures speak for themselves!
Most of our time in Luxor was spent seeing sights, enjoying local restaurants and just walking around the town. We met great locals and lots of fun tourists. There was beer enjoying overlooking the Nile, even boat rides. Luxor is a great few days in Egypt.
Egypt was an incredible trip, you are surrounded by some of the most fascinating history. There are a few things to be aware of during a trip to Egypt- you are visiting a Muslim country and need to be respectful of their customs. Do not wear shorts or a short skirt, no tank tops, and no cleavage. When were there I wore travel pants or longer capris, 3/4 length shirts and a few short sleeve shirts. As a Westerner you tend to stand out and men often tend to leer at women, especially fair skinned women. It is better to be dressed too conservatively than to be harassed. We witnessed an incident of a teenage fair skinned girl in a short skirt and a one shoulder shirt being leered at buy a security guard, if she would have paid attention to the culture this wouldn’t have been an issue!
We felt safe in Egypt but we were also smart travelers, we did not walk around with cameras or valuables out, we were aware of our surroundings and were not walking around alone at night. Be a smart traveler and just pay attention to the area around you. Enjoy yourself, immerse yourself in the culture and experience new things!
