My favourite town in Malta: http://tours-tv.com/en/Valletta

There is much to see in Valletta - something for every one.  In the time of the Knights, the Grand Masters would give a gift to the order.  They used to try and outdo each other regarding the splendour of the gift.  Plus the Order wanted to show the visitors their wealth and power and this has led to a number of splendid  Palaces and Cathedrals richly decorated and with great works of art.  It is a great pity that a number were destroyed during WWll.

This article is intended to collect  the various articles written about specific  locations together  in one place so that the visitor will find it easier to see much of what Trip Advisor contributors have compiled.

Valletta is built on a peninsular with Marsamxetto Harbour on one side with a ferry toSliema and the Grand Harbour on the other side. The main roads are on the top and the roads crossing these roads lead down to the harbours.

If you have just one day to spare this article will give you the highlights you should not miss  -

You will find articles about Musuems and Attractions, Things to see and do in Valletta, Short Stop in Malta, A day in Valletta amongst others.  These are all included in the Top Questions.

Two of the must sees are    The Upper  Barakka Garden  -  which overlooks the Grand Harbour and St. Johns Co-Cathedral  -  one of the most splendid Cathedrals in Europe

Another  important site is The Grand Masters Palace and Armoury which are splendid examples of the wealth and power of the Order of St John.  The state rooms are impressive.

There are a number of museums and other attractions which are well worth a visit.  One of the most popular, especially for those not strictly interested in the arts,  is the War Museum , most of the contents pertain to WWll

There are tours of the Manoel Theatre - one of the oldest in Europe .  One of Malta 's stately homes is Casa Rocca Piccola - it is a noble man's palazzo and well maintained.  The owner and his family still live there.   Open to the public.

Valletta has a number of churches ranging from the chapels to the magnificent.  All are richly  decorated.

Those servicemen who were stationed in Malta  will all remember this street - Stait Street or as it was known The Gut.  It was full of night clubs and was where they all went  for relaxation when off duty.  Sadly the clubs are long gone and only the faded signs remain.

There are excellent  audio visual shows in Valletta . The most visited is the Malta Experience.  Another show is  the Great Siege of Malta and the Knights of St. John.

You can also visit Valletta Living History when you get there, that way you can get a quick introduction to Valletta and Malta before you hit the road.www.maltaattraction.com
