When it comes time to think of the next ski season (which in the Southern Hemisphere's Andes actually starts in early June, though it will likely be altered this year by coronavirus measures), you may find you need new warm clothing for hitting the slopes. And for skiers and snowboarders, gloves are especially crucial, for skiers grasping ski poles and snowboarders keeping hands and arms out for balance (it goes without saying that they're great for ice climbers and other winter-sport practitioners).
Like most items of clothing, ski gloves come in all types and a very wide range of prices, from 10 to more than 250USD. But here are the three top-of-the-line premium products to give your paws maximum protection and maneuverability out on the snow (prices given are online and lower than the manufacturers' list prices).
Probably the best product currently on the market (top), they're are designed with woven-stretch-nylon shells, waterproof goat-leather palms, foam-padded knuckles, and extra long cuffs for better coverage, and they stretch well and are comfortable to wear for long periods. They're also available with the removable liner made from synthetic and boiled-wool fibers. Available online from 60USD.
Another attractive and durable favorite, from a company which has been in business since 1936, features a goat-leather and polyamide outer shell design for optimum gripping capability; a removable, lightweight yet highly insulating polyester lining; and an elastic pull strap with velcro tabs. These gloves also come in three-finger, mitt, and women's versions. From 101USD.
These aren't just premium in quality (similar in design to Hestra, for example), but also available at more affordable prices if budget is a factor. They're made from insulated Gore-Tex shell with a Rubbertec palm which will repels moisture, as well as a removable inner liner of polyester (which is phone-touchscreen compatible, by the way), and a zippered outer pocket for storing small items. The gloves also come in a leather/Gore-Tex version, for around or a bit more than twice the price. From 30USD.
