Surfing in Seychelles can really be an amazing experience for a surfer looking for a non crowded scene. The water is warm year round, but it is recommended that you bring a long sleeved rash guard... the sun is intense! Most of the breaks are over coral reefs, so reef booties can be useful.

Seychelles has two seasons and these are wind seasons. The North-West Monsoon and the South-East Monsoon. The North-West Monsoon blows from Mid-October to Mid-May. The South-East Monsoon blows from End of May until end of September.

When the North-West Monsoon blows, means the the east coast of Mahe is offshore. Beaches such as Anse Royale, Anse Bougainville and Anse Parnel start breaking when there is some swell. All three beaches break right and are easy breaks to ride. Anse Parnel is a short paddle out and a easy ride. Anse Bougainville is recommended for the experienced surfer as the waves become very hollow and breaks fast on a coral bottom. Anse Royale is a long paddle, almost 1 km out, but really a great wave when its working.

When the South-East Monsoon blows, the west coast of Mahe is offshore. Beaches such as Anse Boileau, Anse Aux Poules Bleues and Grand Anse start working when there is a good swell. Grand Anse has a sand bottom and breaks right, but surfers must keep an eye out for the rip currents. Anse Aux Poules Bleues is a great left break and when it works surfers can get some nice tube rides. Anse Boileau has a long paddle out about 400 m, but a nice easy right.

A comprehensive article on Seychelles's surfing places. The best time that consider for surfing in Seychelles is May through September. Personally I'd like surfing in Seychelles are Mahe and Praslin. These are best islands or may be the dream one to perform surfing in its full color.
