The Top 5 Beaches You Must Visit In Greece

When it comes to Greece, one of the first thing that comes to mind besides classical antiquity is beaches. With one of the longest coastlines in the world, filled with beautiful landscapes, it has a great deal to present to visitors. Here are five of the best, which should be on your bucket list:

Navagio Beach, Zakynthos

Also known as Shipwreck Beach (top; and named after an old wooden shipwreck was found buried in the sand above the waterline) this is considered to be one of Greece's most iconic beaches, located on the Ionian island of Zakynthos. Accessible only by sea, it's much photographed due to the shipwreck present at its centre. If you visit, book the tour that includes a visit to the Blue Caves, which includes a dazzling natural light show, with seawater in impossible shades of blue which will amaze you.

Super Paradise Beach, Mykonos

If you are a party person, Mykonos' marquis beach is for you; splendid crystalline water and golden sand, Super Paradise is packed with dozen of buzzing bars, restaurants, and even nightclubs. There's also a water sports rental on the beach for playing in the bay.

Red Beach, Santorini

Located near the village (and archaeological site) of Akotiri, this stunning volcanic beach is famous for its pebbly, iron-rich red sands and dramatic surrounding cliffs. A great place to snorkel, too, and you can easily rent sunbeds with umbrellas.

Elafonisi Beach, Crete

Perched on Crete's southwestern corner of Crete, it features shallow turquoise water and most notable fine white sands which appear pinkish thanks to a profusion of broken seashells. Just 50 yards off the beach you can wade to Elafonisi Islet, marked by the low dunes and string of semi-secluded coves. There are also water sports, sunbed/umbrella rentals, changing rooms, and toilet facilities.

Ornos Beach, Mykonos

Another of Mykonos' best known strands, it's also the closest to Chora (Mykonos town), located in a small fishing village that's become well developed for tourism with hotels, restaurants, shops, and nightlife. It's fairly family-oriented beach, with shallow waters and lots of amenities and activities; it's also popular with yachties and other boaters.
