Sikkim is home to stunning blue lakes surrounded by snow-clad mountains. It boasts some of India's most picturesque lakes, including Gurudongmar (the favorite abode for landscape and travel photographers) and Tsomgo (the best). Nature lovers and photographers will find some of the most beautiful things to do in Sikkim during December.

Gurudongmar: Gurudongmar, at 17,800 feet above sea level is one of the most beautiful freshwater lakes in the entire world. Its popularity is due to the fact that a portion of its deep blue water does not freeze even in below-zero temperatures. This makes it a popular choice for travelers around the globe. Both its Buddhist and Hindu natives consider the lake holy.

Tsomgo: This is located 38km from Gangtok, at an elevation of 12,400 feet above sea level. To visit it one must obtain a special permit from the Tourism And Civil Aviation Department of Sikkim. The melting snow of the majestic mountains around it gives the lake its turquoise color. The lake is home to the Brahminy ducks. It remains frozen in winter and is an amazing sight to see.

Khecheopalri is a beautiful tourist attraction in Sikkim. However, Khecheopalri Lake holds significant religious significance for both Hindus and Buddhists. The lake's colourful display of prayer flags, swaying in cool breezes, and the hundreds of prayer wheels that chime at its entrance bridge make it easy to spot. There are many well-kept lodges that can be rented near the lake at very affordable rates.
