Saint Christopher and Nevis Islands, commonly referred to as “St. Kitts” or “SKN”, comprise a country in the Caribbean Lesser Antilles’ Leeward Islands. They're actually the tops of a submerged volcanic mountain range, covered with rolling green folds of volcanic peaks and lush valleys- and more than a quarter of the "Sister Islands" is conserved as national park lands. Regular ferry service connects the islands of St. Kitts with Nevis – they’re only a couple of miles (three kilometers) apart.
While many visitors spend their time "limin' (chilling), especially relaxing on the beach with a local lime flavoured rum beverage, others see the amazing adventure opportunities these mountainous isles have to offer. Our personal favourite active things to do on St. Kitts & Nevis include:
Hiking
There are a variety of hiking trails on each island, offering something for everyone, from short nature walks to intermediate hikes, to challenging volcano hikes. Combined, SKN have half a dozen mountain peaks above 1,500 feet (500 metres), along with numerous other great and varied areas to hike.
Snorkeling
The islands offer a number of locations to explore its underwater world, including bays, reefs, and more. Slip into the warm Caribbean sea and snorkel right off the beach or take a short boat ride to some nearby reefs and a shipwreck that lie in clear waters. Explore a new world full of diverse coral, sponges and tropical fish, as well as colourful sea fans and even sea turtles and rays.
Diving
A great dive destination, Saint Kitts and Nevis offer a variety of scuba sites off both its Atlantic and Caribbean coasts – there are over two dozen with reefs, wrecks, and walls to explore, and something for divers of all skill levels to enjoy. And if you don't yet dive but have always wanted to try, St. Kitts is a great place to get started – there is a dive school here that offers diving PADI courses and certification. You can also try "scuba-diving lite" with SNUBA experiences.
Water Sports
One of the best ways to really experience the Caribbean is by getting on the beach and into/onto the water. St. Kitts offers an assortment of thrilling water sports activities, both motorized and human powered, while Nevis gives you some more laid back options to appreciate the islands’ coastline. Choices include stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, surfing, jetskiing, parasailing, flyboarding, and wakeboarding,
Cycling/Mountain Biking
Both on- and off-road biking is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise while exploring the islands and getting great views of the Caribbean Sea and neighbouring islands. St. Kitts offers some sugarcane field and road routes, while the Nevis countryside has a number of terrain options and trail styles to choose from, from plantations to the back country.
Great Golf
If you're looking to tee off on an 18-hole/par 71 course while you're on vacation, SKN is happy to oblige with high quality experiences at Frigate Bay's Royal St. Kitts Golf Club and the golf club at the Four Seasons Resort Nevis. Plus two more are under construction on St. Kitts, at Kittitian Hill and Christophe Harbour.
