Red Fort: This imposing fort is built in red sand stone in 3 kms perimeter with the height of the wall varying from 18 to 30 meters. Initially the Red fort was built along Yamuna on one side and
deep moats on the other. At present Yamuna flows a kilometer away and
the moats have dried up. There is light and sound show organized in the
backdrop of this monument every evening, which narrates the history of
Delhi in context of the Red Fort.


Jama Masjid: Jama Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India built by Shah Jehan and complted in 1658. It has three gateways, four angle towers and two 40 Meter high minarets. You may go
to the top of minarets to have a birds eye view of Delhi.


Chandni Chowk: It is one of the main markets of Delhi that consists spice market visited by international tourists. Chandni Chowk market is crowded and congested but very popular with
shoppers. It is located opposite the Red Fort. It consists Fatehpuri
Mosque that was built by the wives of Shah Jahan. There is Sunheri
Masjid from where Nadir Shah ordered his troops to plunder and massacre
Delhi.


The Ghats: The ghats are located along the banks of Yamuna. Ghats are the memorials where the noted leaders and freedom fighters of India were cremated. The Raj Ghat is the memorial erected in
the memory of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. Raj Ghat is a simple
square platform of black marble marks the spot where Mahatma Gandhi was
cremated after his assassination in 1948. It is one of the most visited
Ghats.


Rajpath & India Gate: Rajpath hosts the Republic Day Parade on 26 January every year. A huge road separates the two secretariat buildings and Rashtrapati Bhawan on the Raisina hills. India
Gate is located towards the eastern end of Rajpath. India gate was
erected in the memory of World War II martyrs of India who supported the
British army. The names of these martyrs are inscribed on the building.


The Parliament House: The Parliament house is the supreme law making body in the country where representatives from every nook and corner of India are gathered. It is the center of power where
representatives decide the fate of democracy. Visitors are only allowed
inside the house to watch the proceedings when the house is in session.
Foreign visitors are only permitted with prior permission from their
respective embassy with introductory letter.


National Museum: It is located on Janpath and it is one of the treasure houses of India’s glorious past. The museum has a large collection of excavated items, which date back to 2nd and 3rd
century B.C. The museum has separate section for the Harrapa (Indus
valley civilization) collection and jewellery collection apart from the
regular sections. A daily film show is organized in the auditorium of
the museum. It is closed on Mondays.


Humayun’s Tomb: Haji Begum, the wife of Humayun, built this tomb in 16th century. This red sand stone tomb is considered to be the predecessor of Taj Mahal. It is one of the best examples of
Mughal Architecture. The entry to this historic complex is free on
Fridays.


Old Fort: It is believed that the legendry Pandavas had built their capital, Indraprastha at the place where the old fort stands at present. This fort is in ruins at present. The old fort was
the seat for administration for several emperors. The legendary
Prithviraj Chauhan ruled from here till Abdali defeated him in the
battle of Panipat. The Department of Delhi Tourism holds a light and
sound show at old fort regularly.


Safdarjung Tomb: The Safdarjang tomb is besides the of Safdarjang airport. The Nawab of Avadh built this tomb for his father. The structure is one of the finest examples of Mughal
architecture.


Jantar Mantar: This is an observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh. This observatory can calculate astronomical movements accurately.


Qutab Minar: Qutbuddin erected the Qutab Minar in 1911, as a victory tower. It has a height of 72.5 Meters, a base of 14.32 Meters and tapers to 2.75 Meters. It is the highest stone tower in
India. It is one of the finest Islamic structures and recognized
landmarks of Delhi visited by tourists. The Sultan’s successor and
son-in-law, Iltutmish, completed it. The tomb of Iltutmish still stands
in ruins started in 1235 beside the Qutab Minar but could not be
completed.


The Bahai Temple – Lotus Temple: It was built in 1986; the Bahai temple is set amidst pools and gardens. There is free entry for everybody. It is place of silent pray and meditation. The view
of the temple is very spectacular especially in the evening.


Birla Mandir or Lakshmi Narayan Temple : This temple was built by G. D. Birla in 1938. This beautiful temple is located in the city center near Connaught Place. The temple is dedicated to the
goddess of prosperity and good fortune.


ISKCON Temple: It was built in 1998 on a small hillock by the Hare-Rama Hare- Krishna cult followers. This elegantly built temple complex is dedicated to the Lord Krishna. This is one of
the largest temple complexes in India.


Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple: It is situated in Delhi and epitomises Indian culture. The complex was inaugurated on 6 November 2005. The grand, ancient-styled Swaminarayan Akshardham complex
was built in only five years. It brilliantly showcases the essence of
India’s ancient architecture, traditions and timeless spiritual
messages.
