Have a three day weekend to drive around and see some beautiful sights and old mining towns etc...starting from Scottsdale.

Do I have enough time to drive to the Grand Canyon? Or should I just drive to Sedona and around there. I like biking and hiking too.

From Scottsdale the Grand Canyon is about a half day drive.  Unless you're planning on staying the night (and Williams is a GREAT place to do so when in the area) it wouldn't be feasible.  However, if you do wish to stay, the depot for the Grand Canyon Railway (doing the Polar Express soon, if not already) is located right in the heart of Williams on Route 66.

Globe, AZ, a short jaunt from Scottsdale, is a nice little town to spend some time in as is Jerome with the haunted hotel that was once a hospital.

In the Sedona area are some great vineyards to tour and taste their wares.  Beautiful country!  The Arizona Vineyards website has a map on their site to help you plan a drive through the Arizona countryside: http://www.arizonavinesandwines.com/wine_tour.html

Have fun!

Hi Lilian, If it interests you, the Verde Valley Wine Trail, near Sedona, is great--I just got back. http://vvwinetrail.com The Old Town Cottonwood is worth visiting http://www.visitcottonwoodaz.org/about.php

Cheers,   John

If you center your visit around the Grand Canyon, take one day to drive up to Page to visit the slot canyons on the Navajo Reservation. Don't forget to bring your camera: http://myitchytravelfeet.com/2009/02/24/discovering-arizonas-slot-c...

Arizona is a fun place to visit. You could check out Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, they have some breath taking views. Horseback riding is another popular thing to do with family and friends. You do have enough time to drive to the Grand Canyon, it is one of those destinations that you will have to make time for, because it is something to marvel. If you are looking for another option of lodging near this destination you should check out http://bescover.com/Arizona. They have the best bed and breakfasts nationwide and it is a great way to meet the locals.
