Corcovado is awesome, I loved waking up to the sound of howler monkeys. You can't miss with the location and there are a bunch of "eco" minded places.

I visited Playa Nicuesa Rain forest lodge few months ago, and can say they did an amazing job not only for the estructure of the hotel but the efforts to live in harmony with surroundings. At the entrance of the Osa Peninsula, I would highly recommend Hacienda Baru, a privately managed nature preserve made up of primary and secondary rainforest. They have recently built a few cabinas, but focus more on the ecological tours. They also host researchers to study the flora and fauna in the area and on the beaches, which are empty of tourists - 3+ miles of them. Check out www.haciendabaru.com

The Tiskita Lodge is a great eco-option if you venture further south to Pavones, across from the tip of the Osa Peninsula, only a few miles from the Panama border. http://www.tiskita-lodge.co.cr/

Hi Martha!

Lapa Rios is one of the best known boutique hotels in the region with a long history of sustainability.. it is set near the Corcovado National Park on its own reserve. Esquinas rainforest lodge is another option found on the other side of Golfo Dulce. The Costa Rican Tourism Institute has established a ranking system of 1 to 5 leaves to measure degrees of sustainability, though very few have gotten to 5 (you also have to pay to b ranked). You can fly into Drake Bay, Puerto Jimenez, or Golfito on the world's first carbon neutral airline - Nature Air!
